So I've got this new job at a boat dealership and I am curious about customers towing ability. You might think this is a lil funny too. You see here in Scottsdale, 20" hoops are very common. Last night we sent a guy off the lot with a Suburban on dubs pulling a 28 foot boat. This thing is weighing over 8000 lbs. Is there any way that 20s with a "non rated" tire is a good idea? Just wanted to see reactions and opinions.

as long as the wheels/tires are rated at or above the vehicles GVWR it will be no problem. remember, you(they) are only adding extra weight on the tongue, which is at most only a few extra hundred lbs.

Most 20"s are passenger car tires. Goodrich says when you put a "P" rated tire on a truck application, the load capacity branded on the sidewall is reduced by 10%.

1- most 20's are not passenger car tires. most large size 20's (or bigger) are actual truck tires, and are rated for the load and useage of a truck. if you are running a super-low profile 20, it may be a car tire.

2- i can tell you from experience that most tire load ratings are WAY under rated. much like a tow rating, it is rated lower than what could actually be for liability reasons.
