i have a 2004 v-6 xls ex. i want to tow my 2300 pound car on trailer that weights 1200 pounds. i have no tow package but i do have a class 3 hitch. whats the worst that could happen by me towing my car 5 hours to a carshow?
tranny could go boom.. The weakpoint on the drivetrain is the 5r55w, they have a tendency to fail.. Usually servo bore failure, solenoids, etc but you are under the maximum weight load so you may be fine.
It could have a 5r55s or w....
Your right at 3500 which is your limit...
I plan to tow around 6,000 total the max on a third gen (2wd v8) is 7,000...
I also have an external cooler and deep trans pan...
That is right at your tow rating (3500 lbs). If it's just you, a little bit of luggage, and nothing else in the truck, you should be fine.
If you expect to do this a lot, you should install an aux trans cooler. If you expect to have any passengers or more cargo in the truck, you are overloading, and risking your drivetrain.
