Towing Wire hookup?

I've run a search and can't find the answer I'm looking for mainly I found more confusion. I have a 96xlt that looks like it came with the tow package. But there is no wire. I'm looking for the wiring harness to plug into. Does anyone know where it is? Does anyone know what it looks like? The guy sold me a square (box) plug one side male and the other female and told me there is a connector somewhere on the underside. I've searched everywhere for it with no luck.

Coming out of the drivers side taillight is a plug that goes to my lisence plate lights could this be it?
 






Here is what the connector looks like on my '97. It is the gray plug right above where my hitch disapears under the crossbar. My bumper has been removed to make it easier to see.

The connector for the trailer light should be just to the right (passenger side) of the rear license plate behind the rear bumper. There is an adapter available from Ford to plug into it. See this thread:
