I have an 06 eb with the 4.6... I find it hard to believe the tow capacity is only 3100lbs when the 04 states 7100lbs... is this true? Is there anything I can do to my vehicle to tow a bit more weight?
I’m not talking about towing cross country maybe 60 miles at most

Your 4.6 has a "potential" to tow 7100 lbs.

I have same 06 EB with 4.6 BUT with the towing package, and my rating is around 7k.

Yours and mine have same 3.55 gears.
Yours might have the transmission cooler, but not necessarily, but can be added.
Yours have a small 1 1/4 receiver hitch with is also a limiting factor.
You only have the flat 4 pin connector - you can add the 7 round if needed.

So bottom line, technically you are missing the cooler and heavier hitch that is welded to the frame to have the full tow package.
But practically, your truck is classified/registered with probably just 8500 GCVWR as opposed to 12,000 for the other v8's, and that's all other discussion all together.

I do have the tow package... I have the 2” receiver, 7 pin connector and the trans cooler from the factory... I don’t have an owners manual and seems the only information I can find online states 3100lbs

the camper I’m looking it’s is I believe around 4000lbs

seems I have the 7 pin do I need to add a brake controller or is it already incorporated into the vehicle? Other vehicles I’ve seen with the incorporated brake controlled have an adjustment... I don’t see one in mine

Oh, I thought you stated 3100 based on your particular truck and your VIN number.

If you have v8 and 2" receiver with the 7 pin outlet, then you have the tow package.

You GCWR is 12,000 lbs, so if you weigh your empty truck (it should be around 5,000 lbs, then add gear and family and you come up with about 6,000 total, then you can tow up to 6,000.

I would stay under 5-5.5K
They list the 7k assuming just you and the truck - no passengers or cargo.

I towed multiple trailers and 5k is just fine with weight distribution hitch.

Perfect... thank you... my boys is gonna be happy... he’s getting a camper

Who told you that you were limited to 3100 lbs?

Edmunds.com comes up as the first stating the 4.0 is 3200 and the 4.8 is 3100... a few of the other sites that came up all state similar numbers... must be without the tow package they can’t pull too much?
I need to invest in an owners manual
