Hi guys, Just started towing my 1800lb boat with my '06 Mountaineer AWD. Under normal driving the trans seems fine, smooth, somewhat normal shifting - the shifting issues as discussed all over the forum. While towing my boat, the vehicle shutters or vibrates. Any thoughts?

Are you in OD? You may be building up excess heat causing rough shifts. Is this a V6 or V8?

does the trailer tow smoothly on other vehicles? keep the overdrive turned off.

I have a boat that is slightly heavier than that. I tow with my 2006 v8 ex. at one point I put some good radial tires on my trailer and it towed a lot smoother than the bias ply tires that came with the trailer. this was not specific to stopping however.

It is a V8 and I have tried in both OD and not. As soon as I take off with the boat, I get the shuttering. There are no brakes on the trailer and it was my fathers trailer and boat and he has not had any issues towing it. I wonder if it is just the transmission in this vehicle that has given so many people issues.

How many miles on the vehicle? Trans calibration been updated? (TSB)
Trans fluid and filter ever been changed?

Vehicle is an '06 with just over 40k, trans fluid has not been changed yet. Had an update done about a year ago.
