Ok this is on my mounty with SOA and an add a leaf. I am getting alot of axle wrap offroad and can feel it on hard accelertion on road. My truck had factory traction bars but I see no way of making them work properly. I called James Duff and they said because my truck is a 2000 they wont work. I figure anything with an 8.8 and a simular frame would be adaptable. RCD also makes some for the ranger but the ranger frame is alot different then mine.

So does anyone have traction bars on their truck or know who makes them?

Someone on here modified the Duff bars to work on a first gen. I always thought that the 1st and 2nd gen rears were pretty much the same as far as the axle, frame, etc. went. Could be wrong tho.

what about somethin from a f 150?

Did you search? hehehe

The V8 trucks and AWD trucks have factory traction bars, my friend Joe has them on his 93 Explorer with a SOA, they work great, and they are a simple 1 bolt to remove for wheeling.
but if you searched you would know this already!

Or, ditch the spring over axle conversion and traction bar idea and just buy a good set of leaves that mount in the stock location. This will give you a better ride, better articulation, more wheel travel and eliminate most if not all of your axle-wrap problems. Then you can use the OE traction bars Jamie talked about.

Im really looking into a nice aftermarket traction bar. SOA has better articulation and wheel travel that SUA. I understand I would loose the axel wrap SUA but I would rather have the ground clearance. The factory traction bars wont work for me right now anyway because I got a different rear end that came out of a V6 so no mounting tabs.

mounting tabs are not hard to do???

A god SUA is the same as a good SOA without the added ground clearance at the leaf springs.
The SUA is a better handling setup, even when we are talking a true long travel (flexy) rear.

the OEM traction bars can be used with the spring over axle as well.

The Duff above leaf bars listed to fit a 93 Explorer, did not fit a 93 Explorer.
Joe sent them back, their long link traction bars would work well but talk about ground clearance batman!
So many better ways to fight axle wrap up (springs/shocks/shackles)....

There was a company that makes a single traction bar that looks a lot like a ladder style bar that needs to be welded to the axle and the other end has a (jonny joint) by the transfer case on a shackle mount. I think if you find a jeep catalog, thats what they were oringinally made for. Since the gas tank is on the drivers side next to the spring, it would have to be mounted on the passenger side as close to the pumpkin as possible. The shackle end allows fully articulation for slow speeds.

I know this is an old thread but 410Fortune- you mind telling me how the factory trac bars can be reused after SOA? Mine don't seem to be long enough. I was thinking of drilling new holes in the frame and moving the bracket closer to the axle but im not sure if that would work.

My same problem exactly. Anyone can help?
