I've got a little project in mind but I'm in the R&D stage of it now. I'm sure I will get around to answering my own Question sooner or later but thought I would throw this out just in case someone already knows.

1) What is the voltage to the "OFF" light on this switch?

2) does the switch tell that light to come on? (its not a toggle so I assume NO)
(it resets when you turn the truck off)

Wiring diagram for that system would be great. I have a how-to in the works if all goes well. but this weekend I need to drill bolts out of the excursion bell housing and find replacement seat belts so I might not get around to the explorer.

Looking forward to another helpful write-up...but maybe I'm missing it, what's the "How To" going to be about

ok ok, I've never been good at keeping secrets.
My plan is to do a stealth brown wire mod. I figure, if you want 2wd then you don't care about traction control so why not use the voltage going to the "OFF" light on the switch to activate a relay to control the brown wire.
This also means you wont "forget" to turn AWD back on when you get back in the truck AND if im not mistaken, traction control turns back on over 25 doesn't it? Wouldn't we want traction control AND awd working at hwy speeds? unless your doing over 25mph burnouts then stick to the separate switch. just thinking out loud here.

My EB has the AdvanceTrac system and is a 4x4 but not an AWD model. You sure you have AWD and not 4x4?

If you have a button for 4x4 auto it's basically awd.

AWD means all 4 wheels are under power all the time. Auto 4x4 means the computer only engages the front diff when it feels the driveline "slipping", otherwise you're only utilizing the rear end. Big difference, and two completely different options. They make 3rd Gen's with 4x4 and also with AWD. They are mutually exclusive.

I actually had this same idea. That way it would look as if the 2wd switch was stock. If you get this completed could you do a write up, it would be much appreciated....now to find a 2005 center console.
