1996 XLT
I did a search but could not come up with this problem. My grandparents have a 1996 Explorer XLT. It did not have a hitch on it (other than the bumper one. class II I think...). However it did have the trailer light harness on it. They bought it used so I think the previous owner only needed the class II ball mount. The problem they are having is that the lights do not work on the trailer. I know for a fact that the lights on the trailer do indeed work because I tested them on my mom's Escape. The trailer lights worked on my grandparents 'X last fall. This spring they do not. The tail lights work and the license plate lights work fine. If there is a fuse that could be blown, what number could it be? I looked at the fuse that the book says handles the trailer lights and it was fine. The inside of the found connector looks brand new. There is no reason, at least as far as I can tell :), why it is not working. Thanks for all your help. I just weant to say that their 'X also had an idleing problem and you guys were right in that the IAC was dirty. Thanks again!

Try running a ground wire from the trailer tongue to the truck chassis.

Welcome!

Also try checking the plug on the X with a test light to see if there is power there. First use a good known ground source for the test light then if that works try the ground within the plug to see if you can narrow down your problems.

look under the hood and find the power distribution block there.... there are bigger fuese in there and we blew one of those one time somehow and thats exactly the problem we had.... always carry a spare if it is blown
