I did a search of general explorations for lighting adapters for my '96 Limited and only came up with http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=9986&highlight=trailer+lights+adapter

This thread goes into detail on "adapters" and "modules" and powering up the traler lights seperately but my big concern is the fact that my Limited has factory anti-theft, trip computer and onboard diagnostics. I've read somewhere that if the correct adapter is not used for my set up, I can fry the diagnostics and computer. That sounds way expensive.

I'm hauling the old Harley to Tennesee this coming weekend so want to get this straightend out asap.

Any Extreme Ford Techs out there who know the definative answer on this?

Ford wants $80.00 + for the specific adapter for this application (Limited) but I'd like to find a better deal for a little black box with relays and a handful of wire...
That and they told me it'd be a backored item....

Oh yeh.... My X has the towing package with a male plug with a cap... I bought an adapter for '96 Ranger and one for a '97 P/U cause the plugs looked the same but no worky....

Thanx!

I got mine at Advance Auto. Granted, I have an XLT and not Limited but it worked. However, When I first hooked it up, it didn't work. The Connector looked and felt like it was in all the way but it wasn't. It took me a few tries but once it was in, it worked.

Reich,

Hmmmmmmm cool....
I've got and Advance Auto down the road... The connectors that didn't work were from A-Zone.

Do you have trip computer and anti theft?

I have anti-theft but no trip-comp. If you're worried about the trailer wiring screwing up your trip computer, you could just take it out and give it to me. :D

Reich,

Me thinks that the diagnostics are the primary issue with the lighting ....

Not sure though that's why I'm advertising my ignorance.

Uhhhhhhhh.......

All that stuff at the top of the console just takes up foot room that you need to plant both feet widely while airborne.
That's why my '93 xlt is better to get airborne....

That and less stuff to fall off.

:D
