Hi, just bought explorer and am fitting towbar. Found socket under bumper but only has six wires. how do I connect the 7-pin socket to it or id there an alternative?

wheres the plug at? if you have a tow-package you would have a round 4 wire plug near the drivers side tail light, that will let you connect a 4-flat. if you need a rv-7 you will need to wire the extra 3 wires yourself, its not too hard. you have a few options as far as adaptors and such
 






What model year Explorer?
Sounds like you don't have the factory towing package.
What is the loaded weight of your trailer?
 






Hi, found a 6-pin socket (under the bumper on right hand side as you look at rear) to attach to the 7-pin socket (uk trailering!!). worked out the only wire missing is for the brake lights. will have to splice in somewhere!!!
