Alright i know the trail master 4 inch lift is for the 98 and up Explorers, but why wont it work on my 97 sport. My dad owns a 98 Sport and i have been looking under both and cant see a major diiference in them. I asked the guys at my local Ford parts store about the difference and they couldnt think of one either, they said the lift should work. I know that i am obvioisly overlooking something major but could someone please inlighten me as to what that is.

What I was told by one of the Trail Master Reps. is that on the '95-'97 Ford welded the rear torsion bar mounts to the chassis, but the '98+ they are bolted on. This is why they only market them for the newer model. The question I have is, would it be possible to remove the origional mount and replace it with one from a later model? If so the kit for the '98+ will work on the '95-'97.

i just looked and i think they are welded on!
i looks like they could be removed with a metal saw and new bolt hole could probably be drilled in the frame. i found a shop near me that says they can do the 4 inch lift kit on my 97. How much does the trailmaster kit cost?

Southern '97 Sport,

How much did the shop near you quote you? I also have a 97 Sport and although I don't think I'll go all the way to Georgia to get a lift, I would still like to know what a custom lift would cost.

Thanks.

This place looks really good and they do alot of custom stuff. They charge $80 an hour in labor plus parts. they said it would probably take around 3 hours. so thats $240 plus the lift!

Are they telling you that they have the Trailmaster lift already? As far as I know, it's not shipping yet.

Let us know!!!

They could be using the lift for the Ranger. You are right that the Explorer lift has not come out yet.

Hey southern sport, where you from in roswell i am from alpharetta i have the black explorer with 32 muds roof rack and brush guards, which off road place said they could do it?? 4wd parts on buford highway can do it. talk to kevin he is the owner. in the next few weeks i am going to put on either the 4 inch trailmaster or do a custom body lift, but whatever it is i will have it done at 4wd parts.

The shop is called Wilder Performance, INC. www.wilderperformance.com its down by The Source and MSP racing. They do mostly engine work but the other day i was in there and they were doing a 6 inch lift to a silverado, just after they dropped a few engine mods in it that made it put 750 hp to the street! I had Kevin do my Torsion Bar lift and he told me that he couldnt do a four inch lift, when did he tell you he could?

Jeffseal,
I'm from the east cobb area and am looking for a fellow explorer to wheel' with. problem is I only got a 2wd sport. What places do you ususally go in the alpharetta area?

my friends and i usually hit rope mill rode or the logging roads up by lake Alatoona
