Hi, I'm new to this forum but wanted to say that I've seen a lot of good advise while researching this problem. I did a search but did not see the same symptoms. '97 XLT V6 SOHC. I've had bilnking O/D light intermittently for the last couple of months. While it's blinking, it shifts hard. When the light's off, it drives great. I know that it's a sure sign that something's wrong, but I'm in the middle of an engine rebuild in my Mustang and haven't had the money to check it out. I plugged in my diag tool but there were no OBD codes present. Would the code only be there while the O/D light is flashing?

Last night, the light was flashing and as I was pulling into a parking lot, I felt the transmission slip just a little. I drove over to a parking space and put it in R to back in and it didn't move. I then put it in Drive and it wouldn't move. Either position, it acted like it was in neutral. It's lost forward and reverse. Fluid level is good. Could this be the torque convertor? One of the other solenoids?

Sorry for the long post, but I wanted to give all the details I could to avoid too many followup questions. Thanks.

Welcome to the site. The O/D light flashing is an extended OBDII code. Most readers can't read them.. Usually you need a high end reader to read those types of codes. What I recommend doing is atleast checking the fluid at operating temperatures on level ground with the truck running. Moving to the transmission & transfer case forum.. I think you'll get more results there..

Wish you luck.

I am wondering about something. I have the same tranny only mine was slipping badly. A mechanic told me to unhook the neg terminal on the battery, wait a few minutes and put it back on. I did and the slipping was gone. When certain codes flash I was told it puts the tranny into whats called " limp mode " and doing that to the battery resets it. You still have a problem somewhere but see if that gets it to move again
