I figured out where all 8 qts of tranny fluid went, but why and how is my question?? I noticed a lil leak under the top radiator hose, and figured it was coming from the radiator!! Took the hose off today, and nothing but tyranny fluid came out of the hose, and radiator!!! I think I know the answer, but how is it geting in there, and is that why I have no forward gears??

there's a small tank inside your radiator that holds/cools trans fluid. sounds like your tank is leaking, but if it leaked even 1 quart into the cooling system, your antifreeze should have pink oil floating in it. i doubt you've lost all 8 quarts of fluid. you transmission will stop working after losing far less fluid. are you sure the fitting where the trans line attaches to the radiator isn't just leaking?

Thanks for the response Kodak!! I'm posotive!! Actually, when i took off my top radiator hose, there was nothing but tranny fluid pouring out!!

Oil floats on water.
You need a new radiator and a cooling system flush to remove the oil.
Fill the transmission after the radiator is replaced and before you run the engine.

Are you sure there isn't any coolant in your tranny?

Time to drop the pan and find out.

I'll second that. Coolant in a running transmission will destroy it in no time.

Coolant in Transmission?

The transmission cooler in your radiator can be replaced by a competent radiator shop, no need to throw away your whole radiator. The cooler is steel and brazed together and can have weak braze joints that can leak.

If your radiator cap holds the prescribed pressure of thirteen PSI once the engine is shut down coolant can be pushed back into the transmission. So you need to drop you pan to find out. The abradeble surfaces on clutches and bands are glued (bonded) to there steel backings and coolant will dissolve that glue and you could eventually find those parts in the bottom of the pan.

It's not possible for your cooling system to hold an additional 2 gallons of anything, nonetheless tranny fluid. How do you know it was down 8 quarts? Did you have to add that much to the tranny?
