Did anyone toy with this idea? It just ran through my mind last weekend while towing a trailer... it could save a transmission.... no?

I've got a digital one that is mounted in an A-pillar pod with a A/F ratio gauge. Could definitely save a tranny if you noticed that the fluid was getting really hot and then pulled over and let it cool. An aux tranny cooler would also be a good idea.

That all sounds good. Looks like I need to check with Summit Racing on this issue. I do have a tranny cooler but towing - well, you never know what can happen on a 100 degree day.

Thanks,

hmmmm guess i will post it again.
i have a temp gauge and flexalite cooler, here is a pic.
notice the T fitting on the left, thats where i put the sender for the gauge that is on my A pillar.
feel free to ask questions.

looks good... all I have is a stock cooler with no fan... I'm checking with Summit right now.

if your looking to upgrade the cooler to fan assist DONT get the flexalite cooler, i found out a week after i bought this one that permacool makes a stacked plate fan assisted cooler that is way nicer than this one.

question... which gauges to buy? Summit racing has a few different styles... any tips?

I recommend the digital one from Dekota Digital.

ya they are nice... i have a autometer z series.
love the fact it looks like a stock gauge and even has the same green back light as the rest of the instraments

B&M has a nice cooler with a fan attached if you are looking- stacked plate type- the only type of cooler to use.

I have an Autometer gauge - 2 1/16" old style with a needle and a scale. I like gauges with a scale and pointer I think its easier to read since you dont have to think about absolute numbers you can see on the scale where the needle is relative to the range. Autometer has nice gauges- Ive used the Pro Comp series and they are really nice, but the standard Autometers ar egreat gauges also.

Good Luck.

just wanted to make sure I get them with some backlight.... description on one of them (don't remember which one) said that needle is fluorescent... scared me a bit that gauge might not have back light.

Anyways, I also like the classic look and feel of these gauges... I was also looking at some of the other ones (Glow or something) but I'm afraid that these would pose a little problem while driving at night with their "awsome" illumination.

Classic it is then.... ProComp series,

Thanks again,

Jegs has an Auto Meter gauge for tranny temp. Part # 105-5757. From what I understand, $46.99 gives you the gauge, sender and all wiring. I'm getting the steering column gauge pod that Black Magic has on display on his site, Perma-Cool tranny filter kit(non gauged), and Perma-Cool 20,000 GVW tranny cooler. all for $146.96. I think its a good deal. But its not coming till the end of summer. Gotta save up for the exhaust now

I just checked Summit for the tranny filter. It appeared that they have the perma cool filter kit, + gauge and sending unit for $80. Seemed like a goo deal to me. Do a search for "transmission filters" on summitracing.com.

Thanks, I will. Should really put it in before summer temps hit our area.
:)
