Hello all. I am new here to this forum and would first like to introduce myself. I just got a 96 xlt 4.0 automatic. I've had the truck for bout a month now and have had no problems. Untill yesterday that is. I was leaving the grocery store and just after going over a speed bump the tranny seemed to slip. I could see the rpms go up then it seemed to catch its gear with a grinding sound. It then grinded again when it shifted to second. There were no more problems after that? I have just over 200k on it and am not sure of the maint. History. There are no check engine or od off lights on? Fluid looks ok and dosent smell burnt. I am stumped and fear I may be screwed soon. Any help or advise is greatly appreciated.

Check the fluid level? Truck bounces over a bump, oil in pan sloshes around, if level too low, pump sucks in air for a few seconds, instead of oil, transmission loses it's pressure for a short time, truck resumes level position again, oil settles back, pump gets fluid again.......

Just a thought. If it's correct, getting fluid into the trans. may be all you need, and can quit worrying! imp

Thanks for the response. I drove her to and from work today without any probs so what ur saying could be very possible. The level looked good when I checked but I did add some lucas to it when I first bought the truck. Could that maybe make the dipstick look like there's more in there than actually is?
