I have a 1993 Ford Ranger pickup. Is there a transmission fluid dipstick under the hood? A Ford mechanic at a dealership said that I add tranny fluid where the dipstick is, but I can't find it!! If I do need to add it underneath where the "Fill" plug is, then can someone tell me how to add it :fire:

I tried every type of funnel you can use, but there just isn't any room to get one high enough and pour it in. I felt real stupid trying to add it, but I'm sure I'm just doing something wrong.

Do you recommend ATF? A parts guy also said to use some type of oil but I forgot the name of it.

Thanks for all input. I need it!!

The dipstick tube is at the back of the engine compartment to the passenger side of center, near the firewall. It can be difficult to get a funnel into - they make funnels with tubes attached to them, that's what I use. You want to use a fluid meeting Mercon III standards. Often you will find a Dexron/Mercon labelled ATF, just check to make sure it meets Mercon III standards - it should say so on the can.
