Looking at the car fax for my truck, it shows the transmission has been "overhauled" twice; once at 89k and again at 122k, both by the same AAMCO shop. Hopefully they got it right the second time.

So with 143k on it now, does anyone have an opinion on whether or not to have the fluid flushed and filled? It doesn't display any shifting irregularities.

I'm tempted to do it because I've done it on almost every vehicle I've owned when first purchased. Always been told it's cheap insurance. I usually keep my vehicles for 10+ years, though I only put on about 50-60k miles in that time and it's mostly city driving.

This is the first Explorer I've owned and the first truck-type vehicle. I've read that on high mileage vehicles it's sometimes better to leave it alone unless it's displaying some shifting issues or something but to me, that seems like it's usually too late by then.

Been thinking about having it done at the dealer instead of the local AAMCO. My wife had her T-bird fixed at the local AAMCO and it took two transmissions to get it right so I'm leary of going to them.

Any input is appreciated.

AAmco is a joke! I would leave it well enough alone. Trans services/flushes are a nightmare on these to get proper fluid levels etc.
