After I pounded on it to get the shift patern to go up and drop back down and to engage the overdrive, I had a pretty good puddle coming from the front adge of the bell housing. It slowed down after about 10 min of idle.

Front seal or torque converter? it was a suposed "rebuilt" tranny. I have to put a shift and lockup solinoid in it next week but I will need to plan on removing it if the front seal or torque converter needs to be changed as well.

Any Ideas?

There is a known issue with the AL4D front pump seal not working right due to a bellhousing mis-alignment.

Mine is doing the same thing - as are others on the board.

This has been reported and posted on in other places on the board - do a search for front seal leaks on the Al4D.

The cure is to replace the bellhousing and align hone the entire assembly like they did at the factory - most rebuilders just throw in a new seal - but that isn't effective.

The slow shift issue is likely a stuck governer valve in the tail housing - you can also do a search for that issue - it is easily repairable at home.
