Tranny light

I have a 98 Merc Mountaineer that I bought a few months ago. I love the truck but have not been able to find a good web community to answer this question. Yesterday the "O/D off" light began to flash. The tranny feels like it is shifting correctly and at the correct rpm's. Does anyone know if there is a common problem with these trucks that may be a likely culprit? There has been no evidence of any leaking underneath. IT has the V8 with AWD. The truck has 65,500 miles. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Check your fluid level and color. When was the last time it was serviced?

Computer may have picked up a one-time fault. Happens quite often. To determine if so, you can disconnect the battery for 30mins or so to reset. The OD light should not blink. If the OD light starts blinking again, then you have a recurring fault and having the code pulled would be next step.

If you inadvertanly hit the "O/D Off" switch at the end of the shifter stalk, does the dash light flash or stay on solid? Not trying to hijack just wondering if this is the culprit.
