I have the same noise. I have had
new catalytic converters put on. still rattles
new torque converter put in- still rattles
tranny completely rebuilt - still rattles
dynomat all of the heat shields - still rattles but quieter.

I am not sure what the noise it but it sounds like it would be in the converter. It only does it in rev or drive when you take off untill just before it shifts. then comes back in the next gear. Always goes away about 3/4 the way through the gear and goes off like a switch. It sounds like a rod knock almost.

Let me know what you find out or how you fixed it.

mine only rattles in drive if youre sittin at a stop light idling in drive with your foot on the brake.

Check all your heat shields by having the truck idling (if thats what causes the rattle) and cover your hand with something temp proof and feel around until you hit the shield that stops it.

If you determine its not a shield, try a mechanics stethoscope to try to isolate the location, which will help the diagnosis.

I had something like that. It ended up being something that mounted to the transmission and needed to be welded to the exhaust pipe

I had a similar problem thought it was the tranny as well..Turns up the heat shield had a small crack by one of the bolts and oddly enough was clicking together in such harmony(ahhahaha) that it made it sound like a tranny problem. All i did was go under with a wrench and bend the metal back slightly so it wasn't in contact with the other piece.
