You mentioned you had an ABS light on... That would explain it... The two systems are tied together. You could *try* replacing the rear ABS sensor on the differential, but there's no guarantees there... It's about a $13 part, but it may or may not fix the problem. Without the code, it's a guessing game at best.

I was wrong about the abs light.. My car has the abs light on and my explorer has the air bag light on.

if I send 12v to the brown wire the 4X4 should engage correct?
