I had my 5 speed on my 94 4x4 worked on 2 years ago. the mechanic replaced the throwout bearing and installed a new clutch. I replaced the fluid last year because I was starting to hear a buzzing noise from the tranny. I was shocked to find that he filled the tranny with some sort of gear oil and not atf. Will this cause my tranny to go out? It is making quite a bit of buzzing now and I am afraid my tranny will go. It is bad for the bearings? I questioned him about it and he got real defensive saying that he put in what the manufacturer recommended...I don't think so! I have 102k on it and I have heard horror stories of how expensive rebuilds are,,,maybe I should just swap in a T5,,do they make any other tranny for the 4.0?

From the Haynes manual.."Gear oil is designed to be used in differentials, manual transmissions and other areas where high-temperature lubrication is required." Check your owners manual for recomended wts..As far as the buzzing, this could be caused by several different things.Start by checking the fluid level..

ATF is AUTOmatic tranny fluid...You dont have an automatic so no worries...

Our 5 speed manual trannys take automatic tranny fluid only.
