tranny problems

Out for a ride, and at a stop sign, tranny would not move properly (very sluggish). Pulled over, and no reverse either. I am sure that there is now low gear either. In reverse it won't even move. Guess I need to find tranny shop. Or another tranny. My ex is a 93 Limeted with 4" lift on 31s with automatic. What tranny do I have.

you have whats know as the a4ld. not the best tranny out there, but if you get an aux cooler, and i beleive someone makes a bigger tranny fluid pan. they dont like to run hot. get a new one with a warranty, or if youre cheap and mechanically inclined, go pull one at a junkyard.

A4LD isn't that bad a tranny.... it just gets a bad rep because it is not as tough as the rest of an explorer, and being part of an explorer it gets abused, plus, most people don't take very good care of them.

Might look for a complete used Ex, can go to junk yard, but dont want to have to put in 2 or 3 to get one thats good. Besides, if I find a used one might do a flip in rear and 6in up front. Extra parts always good to have.

also looking for info in changing gears to G2 4:56. Would appreciate any info as to how to and is it going to require any special tools or work?
