I have a 94 XLT. I had the tranny rebuilt less than a year ago. The problem I am having now is that from time to time it is slow to go into gear from park. regardless wether i am putting it in drive or reverse. also twice when i have stopped at a light i press on the gas and no go. Any ideas on where to start?

Thanks

Sounds like your shift cable.

thanks....I just pulled her up on ramps today she has been sittin for while..... I wanted to get the vette running first. i will start checking that.

I'm not too familiar with the 1st gen trans so aside from the cable or your shift solenoid (if it has one) not much advice I can throw out there.

I do know lots of 1st gen owners continue to have problems with the trans even after rebuilds.

the funny thing is it would still be under warranty if the owner of the shop hadnt commited suicide.....so since i have the time and its not a daily driver( i have 2 other vehiles to drive), i am planning on diving into the tranny myself if it needs it. should be a great learning expierence:D

I have heard a couple people say they had problems with the fluid pan, something about the pump tube becoming obstructed or damaged. This reduced the fluid pumping thru the trans and burnt it out prematurely. I heard about this maybe 10 years ago, there might be write-ups about it here somewhere. It doesn't really sound like your problem though.

Sounds to me like its a fluid flow or pump issue to me. If it is sluggish in only one gear then it would be in that gear's circut. This tranny is all hydraulic except for the shift into and out of overdrive and the torque converter lockup. The PCM controls those via solenoids in the tranny valvebody.

Get yourself a good tranny book and the factory services manuals for your year truck if you want to tear apart your trans. There are some special tools you will need as well.

there are always special tools...so i am not worried about that.....just never done any tranny work myself
