Tranny Quit Suddenly

Stpped to get the mail and when shifting back to foward gear, there wasn't any. No gears at all.

Can a tranny dump that quick ? This is my work truck and I need the quickest fix.

mine did that in winter i could shift threw all the gears and it wouldnt change, so i left it in drive and just sat there and eventually it engaged

Has it been OK since then ?

Should I rev the engine ?
