Tranny shifting seems slower - need direction

It seems to lag before going into the next gear..this is something new..

Is that a clogged or detached vacuum line? or a clogged tranny filter? or older fluid?

I havent done anything to tranny....mileage is $130

Meaning, late to shift, ought to shift sooner, or late with speed-up of engine, or both? Happening in ALL gears? If only 1 gear involved, unlikely caused by reason(s) shown. Engine vacuum no longer used as control for automatics.

Certain engine "issues" can cause transmission "symptoms", as engine speed and load are now primary "sheft decision" factors. imp

seems as if the 4th gear going into 5th sometimes seems like it should shift before it does...also on the highway, 5th gear feels like it is dragging a little...it slows down on its own instead of coasting

but the other day it revved real high before going into 3rd gear I think it was..

I am concerned for 1) tranny damage in the future 2) gas mileage - I want better

this saves me from starting a thread, im having same issues!!! its always the last gear that seems like its creeping and takes like 1/2 throttle for it to downshift. and when it goes into that gear if lets say it took 1 second to shift in all other gears, it takes about 1.5 seconds for that gear.

i as well am having this problem, except mine seems to shift kinda hard, and when coming to a stop, it "clunks" when it down shifts into first.
i'll be chaning tranny fluid and filter in hopes to remedy this problem :)
i will also be watching this thread for other info :)

so we have 3-4 people with the same issue...I wonder if this is affecting our gas mileage cause I bounce around between 16-18 highway.

My 5R55e suddenly had harsh shifting with a clunk on downshift to second gear. A rebuilt valve body cured it.

Ours hesitates when upshifting and when in reverse makes a horrible noise and won't let you go until you try a few times...you guys think we need a whole new transmission? :(

ok, so i've noticed that mine works much better when i let it warm up for about 5 min. before i try driving it. and i also just did a tune up, (sparkplugs, wires, injector cleaner, air filter, and airbox mod.) and for some unusual reason, it's helped my tranny shifting a lot. it shifts better (not good but better) the plugs i pulled out of it were autolight double plattiums. which looked like they had more than 150,000 miles on them ( i only have 140,x.. on the explorer) the electrode one 5 of the 6 were more than half missing from wear. the wires had several cracks throught the boots and were seezed onto the plugs, the air filter looked solid with crap, and after looking at the design of the round air filter housing, i decided it needed to be moddified to flow better. i pulled the housing out of the truck and with a sharpy i traced the opening of the fender air inlet and took the 2 screws out and cut the opining bigger with a dremmal. i then traced the mouning on the bottom of the housing with a sharpy and cut a really big hole in the bottom.
since then i've noticed a huge differance in the drivabiality of the truck. i also went from 15 mpg. up to 18 mpg. :) i'm much happier with it now :)
