tranny swap, fooling ecu

I have a 94 X with a dead auto trans. I have a donor 91 X (overheated engine) with a 5 speed with 70K. I don’t want to use the 91 ECU for the following reasons: (1) I don’t think the 91 ECU will plug and play with the 94 ECU because of the EGR and cam position senor and probable other differences, (2) the 91 wiring harness has been hacked to death so I would rather not swap it, (3) I may want to go back to a built auto at some future date.

From what I can gather I need to do the following: (1) plug up the unused vacuum lines, (2) Put a 3 ohm resister where the solenoid was.

What else am I missing???? Reverse light? The clutch depression safety starter switch thing?

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I am under some time pressure to get this done.

looks like you got it all. when i first did my swap, i simply jumped the park/neutral switch so i can get the engine started and it ran from there. however it ran pretty funny and had some gas issues. so i jumped all the wires that went to the gear selector switch on the auto so that it corresponded to the auto being in neutral (not park) (one of these jumps used the resistor). Refer to the shop manual CD for the exact wires you need to jump (obviously this resource is a necessity for this). I also ripped out all the sensors and solenoids from the auto and hooked them up to the auto wiring harness, which i still left in the car, and ziptied them to the trans.

All of this made everything run perfectly. The reverse light electrical connector wasn't the same, so I had to solder the wires from the wiring harness to the new manual back-up sensor and then siliconed it.

As far as the clutch pedal position switch, I just left it alone (the auto already has it jumped). However, it's a nice thing to have (unless you want to get an auto-start), especially if you go to a valet or a car wash where someone else drives your car. I live in NYC, where nobody knows how to drive stick and people aren't expecting an SUV to be a stick, so you'll get people starting your car in gear without looking.
