Tranny won't shift out of second?

Just picked up an explorer needing tranny work. It is a 95 Limited 4x4 with the 4.0 engine. It shifts from 1-2 fine, but not into 3rd? Any ideas of where to start? Thanks
 






I'd start by dropping the pan and seeing if there any parts of the intermediate band lying in the pan. Also see if you see any metal shavings. Then I would adjust the intermediate band.

You are not having any codes? (OD light flashing)?
