I've searched for a helpful thread on how to flush and change the coolant and trans fluid and I came up with no results. Hopefully one of you could point me to the right threads for those.

Want to do those on my explorer this weekend! Thanks:chug:

Trans - pull the top trans cooler line off the radiator, direct it into a gallon jug. Start the car, let it pump until the gallon is full. Refill, 4 qts. Repeat if you want.

Coolant - open the drain ****, let the system drain for 10 min or so, fill and purge.

Don't do it this way... Pumping lube out of moving parts is never a good idea, and it won't pick up the deposits.

They sell trans flush kits. They consist of a pressurized can that you attach to your tranny cooler lines and discharge into your transmission. The stuff inside is good at breaking up deposits and other such nonsense and can even help recondition seals. Use that before changing your transmission fluid and filter. Otherwise, many shops also preform tranny flushes for little more than it costs to change the fluid and filter at a shop.

An addition to the coolant flush: Buy a bottle of stuff that cleans out your coolant system. I forget what exactly it's called but when you are re-filling your system just use water, dont completely fill the system and then pour this bottle in there. Run your car for 10 mins at just higher than idle, rev it a few times nicely and then shut er off and flush it out. run water through when flushing it again and then fill the rad normally. 1/2 water 1/2 antifreeze or whatever you do. Works great and you'll see how nasty the water coming out can be.
