I have a '96 Explorer sport, auto. When I come to a stop or start or even sometimes going over bumps the drive shaft kind of "thumps" into the back of the transfer case. Do I have a shaft and/or bearing going out in my trans case? Everything else is functioning properly.
Think I might have solved my problem, slip yoke?????? I will update after I lube er up.

there's no slip-shaft at the t-case, but you may check for any excessive play in the yoke.

another good possibility is a lack of grease in the slip yoke on the shaft itself. It's been known to get noisy/clunky if there's a lack of grease.

Its the slipe yoke on the drive shaft. What grease do we recommend using? White lithium doesnt really seem to be cutting it.

some real grease grease. the gooey stuff, lol.
same stuff you would use for balljoints would be sufficient, I would think.

although it appears Ford makes some specific stuff.
Motorcraft spline grease pt# XG-8 is a small 3oz tube.
D2AZ-19590-A is a larger tube.
