Well it made 194K. Trans was banging gears so I knew she was on way out.
Then bang no more 3-4-5 or R. Made it home doing 30mph still better then a tow. Out with the old and in with the 24K unit I had waiting in the garage for 6 months.

Now this large electric bulkhead would not pull out of trans from top. I had to drop pan drop soloniod pack and tap it out from the bottom.

Transfer case new Merc V fluid.

Put new merc V in trans and she shifts mint. What a weekend.

Do not use Mercon V for transfer case, it reads on it not to. Get "Transfer Case Fluid" from Ford.

Mercon V is not compatible with old Mercon.

How did you get to the top 2 bell housing bolts ?
Did you remove the intake manifold from the motor ? On my v8, you can't get to them easily.

Also, did you snap the cross member to frame bolts under the tranny ? When I was replacing my transfer case, I tried, but when the first bolt snapped, I stopped, and did it with the cross beam in place.

I read up on it and tons say Merc V is ok for TC. Alot use Merc V, royal purple,amsoil, mobil 1 syn trans fluid in TC, Merc V is just syn trans fluid in a 4x4 TC. (mine 4x4 not AWD)

For upper trans bolts. My v6 remove rad fan shroud upper guard off rad so engine can tilt down all the way so I can get to upper trans bolts with really long extension and swivel. The truck is a 2010 so all bolts came out.

I just let engine with trans only pull itself down as much as it drops with all cross members out. With like 3-4 foot extension on ratchet. Didn't touch engine mounts. I did pull the Y pipe thou. It lets trans drop down more.

My 6r60 with 220k miles is still strong but I realize it may be any day :) that I will do what you did.
