04 explorer xlt
My sister inlaw has a 04 explorer xlt v6 awd. She took it into the ford dealer after she went to put it in gear and it didnt engage til it was given a little gas. They say its a transmission control module. I got a repair manual and there is nothing listed about a tcm. The only thing i can find is the pcm, and the module for the t-case. They told her its inside the trans but i only see where the its just the solenoid packs and that stuff. I checked fluid level and thats fine and the only code is for her stuck open thermostat. It only has 108,000 miles. Help please. Thank you

The dealer is likely pretty hungry. First, check the fluid level; this process is not too difficult, but since the transmission has no dipstick, if no fluid presents itself when the little plug under the oil pan is removed, adding fluid is a bit difficult. Ford intended to force the fluid added against gravity up into the trans. through the check plug. Usually neglected to be mentioned is the existence of a pipe plug in the right rear side of the transmission case, above the oil pan flange, through which fluid may be added using a suitable "squirter" attached to a short length of tubing.

If fluid is not low, further nosing around is needed. imp
