I installed a temp gauge in my tranny's pan and for a year the temp never went up unless I was towing on a very hot day. Currently the gauge regularly rises to 150 to 200 on days over 80 degrees without towing.
So, to determine what was happening I used a laser temp gauge to get a spot on temp assessment.
Here is what I came up with on a hot day:
(Do the results seem dangerously high and outside specks?)
Inside gauge temp 155
Pan = 142 to 150
Center of tranny by drain valve = 162
Front of tranny = 197 to 202
Cooler lines = 152
