Trans Trouble

1996 Explorer XLT 4wd
Trans quit shifting out of first gear this morning and engine light came on. I headed to Autozone and had the guy read the codes for me.
Shift Soloniod B Stuck was the code he got.
What can i do to repair this?
can I Change it myself? Anyone have a Ford part number?

Search for shift solenoids. I think there was a TSB out on that. Replacing the SS is easy as long as you have basic hand tools and can drop the tranny pan.

I have the procedure to change out the solenoids for a 5R55E. Your tranny is slightly different, but this will give you some idea of what you need to do (They forgot to tell you to remove the pan, but its pretty obvious from the pics)

Problem was not the solenoid. It turned out that the second gear band blew up thus the computer thought the solenoid was stuck. anyway it's in the shop getting rebuilt, should have back wednesday sometime.

I need to become an exper too. But my 5r55e has been giving me problems for 30,000 miles that I can't seem to fix despite numerous tries in the driveway.
