ok, stock exp, 4.0 sohc.
My 4x4 light started to flash and can not find ANY reference as to what it is for...
took it to the repair shop, they said it was bad and needed replace, They said they replaced it.
Now it has a very hard time coming out of 4 high and does not go into 4 low at all.
took it back and they now say the wheel sensors are bad...
1, what did the flashing 4x4 light mean?
2. I think they put a bad unit in, or could it be the shift motor.?
3, I am almost positive this has NO wheel sensors for the tranfer case operation ??

Please, Any help or advice...
Thank you all. happy new year.

This is an '01? Wheel speed sensors feed their signal to the ABS Module. Pretty certain '01 used only 1 Wheel speed senor at rear, so there are 3. Without knowledge of trouble codes, it must be stated that the flashing 4X4 HIGH light is used as an alert for quite a few different problems. It also indicates that 4X4 operation has been shut down, also done for a variety of reasons. Did you try 4X4 operation BEFORE the knotheads worked on the vehicle? Did it then do what it does now? So,
1) no way to know
2) possibly yes; possibly yes
3) Correct.

You didn't specify exactly what it was they replaced. Was it the transfer case? Dash switch? Also, it needs to be asked...are you running matched set of tires on all four corners?

ABS wheel sensors and transfer case sensors are two different things. If your '01 is like my '98, you'll have two sensors mounted to the t.c. I don't know of any way they can be bench tested...but, they can be removed fairly easily and the ends cleaned of their metallic shavings as a first step in determining if they are defective. Honestly, I doubt these are the problem.
