transfer case gets hot

while i was under the truck a few days ago i noticed the transfer case was hot to the touch, not enough to sear the skin but it was pretty warm. does anyone know if i should worry about this or is it normal?

The transmission output shaft is constantly truning the insides ofthe t-case, which go to the rear driveline. Moving parts will get hot, mine gets way to hot to touch.

Yes, the transfer case will get hot. If you are worried about it loosen the drain plug and have a look at what comes out.

Freshen up the oil - it will get hot - but I would make sure that it is full of oil - not water - and that the oil in there is going to take care of it when it is hot.
