Ok guys I'm hoping someone can please help me here. I have a 2000 Explorer that needs another transfer case. I know that there are about 5 different cases that Ford used and they are the last two letters of the part number differentiate them. I called the Ford parts phone number and gave them my vin and they tell me my explorer takes a CB transfer case, so I get one and go to put it in this weekend and discover the part number on the transfer case that is in my Explorer is an AA case. First off should I get an AA case since that is what is in the truck now? Secondly does anyone know what the differences are between the transfer cases? Why should you not mix and match, theyare physically the same on the outside, does it have tp do with gear ratios in the rear ends and such or what? Please help me out here guys, thanks!!!

Which engine? And what are the rest of the case ID numbers?

Sorry should have given that info. It's a 4.0 L V6, the traner case # is YL24-7A195-AA....this is the transfer case thats in the truck. YL24-7A195-CB is what I'm told I need. I do have some new info done I posted this. My girlfriend has called around to some ford garages and they are saying that the CB case is a replacement for the AA case and my explorer should have the CB case.............advice.....opinions???

I saw something that said an XL24-7A195-CB would fit. Or you might be able to just rebuild the one you have.
