Transfer case motor, '91 no Low range

I know this has been beaten to death. I have Hi range 4WD but it wont go into low. In Park , foot on the brake....no go.

I'm guessing I have to 'clean' my Shift Motor. Every picture I have seen of this motor is very basic. On this forum I read about positioning terminals and plastic stops. Can someone send me some pics of what the heck I'll really be looking at?

This should pretty much answer 90% of your questions.

"In Park , foot on the brake....no go." -- Mine won't go into 4L either under those conditions. It "insists" that the transmission be in N, not P, with foot on brake and stopped. If it still doesn't go into 4L, then work on shift motor as suggested.

Neutral...I guess that is so there is some slop in the transmission. I'll try that first.

Robb that is exactly what I was looking for. The motor and brushes I am no starb=nger to but the tiny bit of electronics on the motors end was the mystery. Thanks!!
