been havin probs with my transfer case. 96 sport auto. It makes clunkin noises constantly. It engages, roughly, then soon as i touch the gas pedal, it starts clunkin. the noise sounds like its comin from the transfer case or front axle. I looked around myself, and nothin seemed out of the ordinary. It worked fine until i needed to engage one time, and it all went to hell real quick. I never used four wheel much. I bought it used a year ago, it worked great (the previous owner was a grandpa who never used it and babyd the car) The dealer said the case is shot, warranty voided (due to the fact that i took itwheelin) he sais water got in it. they wanted 2,200 for the new t-case and wiring. It also shorted out the wires. If it shorted out the wires, then since it is all electronically engaged, then it wouldnt even engage in the first place...at least thats what i would think.

Lookin at some past threads, i am lead to beleive that it could be the hubs. However i cant find any replacement parts for them online. Where can i get these and how hard would it be to do on a 96?

ChevSquasher,
You don't have auto hubs on your truck. From 95 on the wheels attach directly to the axles through the wheel bearings.
that little old man probably didn't ever put it into 4wd to keep everything int the transfercase lubed up. You should at least put it into 4wd and run it on soft pack ground to keep all the gears and clutches in the transfercase lubed. I have had mine in the water plenty of time and not had a problem with it. Did they show you that you had water in the transfercase? Did they explain how the wires could have shorted out? sounds fishy to me. Take it somewhere else.
Too bad the transfercase out of my 97 won't work in your 96, I still have it sitting in my garage collecting dust.

thanks for the offer. I will take her next week to another shop, a reputable one. The guy at the place i bought it from, simply said i voided the warranty and that i shorted the wires, and that i needed a new t-case and wires. He didnt tell me more than that, no matter what i asked him.
