Your vehicle isnt really an "AWD" - its a selective 4wd.

Unfortunately, your transfer case is unique so check out the transfer case and look for a sticker or a metal tag. The transfer case on that Ebay page is the "CB" case. I'm willing to bet you have the "GA" transfer case, with a sticker that looks like this

what do you mean?
i have auto 4wd and 4lo so its an Awd? (auto wheel drive?)

could i switch the tcase for a 2wd 4wd 4lo? that is what im hopn to do.

No the "all wheel drive" transfer case only came if you have the v8 for your generation (95-01). The "selective 4wd" transfer case you have is very much mechanically different than the "all wheel drive" transfer case. Your transfer case has the ability to go into "LO" gear (labeled "4LO"), the AWD transfer case does not have this "LO" gear.

help

Its making a popping noise and it sounds like the drviers cv shaft but i replaced it and the noise is the same. If i turn the wheel in 4wd to the stop the noise is constant. im thinking its the transfercase chain, is thr anyway it could be teh front drive shaft?

You are aware that you should not be engaging 4wd (4HI or 4LO) on dry surfaces (pavement) correct? Otherwise you are destroying your transfer case.

how could i further isolate the prob?

Popping drivetrain noises are pretty frequent so its been covered many times. But assuming you arent engaging 4wd on dry pavement, try disconnecting the transfer case. If it still pops, when the 4wd is engaging prematurely (which isn't the first time)

In all likelihood, it's the CV joint on the front driveshaft. Search and yee shall find. :)

took it back off (was running 2wd) noticed the book was torn and the splins dont look spuare is that normal or is that my noise?

I got the rebuild kit and the noise is the same. how could i check to see if its my chain?

do brown wire mod, then take out front driveshaft and see if its still there. if its not, then its your case. Use the search button for "brown wire mod"
