Hello, I was changing my oil this past weekend and noticed a tube coming out of the transmission. Is this an air breather of some sort. How does that effect going through deeper water?

I thought it was an overfill hose, there's one in the rear too.

It is indeed a breather. If you want to cross deep water you should extend it up to the top of the engine bay. There are also breathers on your t-case and diffs.

It is the vent to allow the transmission to be open to atmospheric pressure. It will also act as an overflow vent/pipe. Apparently, the metal tubing has some little "slices" cut into it somewhere along it's length, and some are saying that taking 3/8 fuel line, hooking it to the vent outlet at the back of the transmission and then running it up into the engine compartment and securing it there is good insurance if you are an offroader and may encounter deeper water.
