Transmission Clutch Friction Plates

Just a quick question. im rebuilding my dads pick up truck transmission since he never got around to doing it, but my questions is, i know the Automatic Transmission Clutch Friction Plates is always in ATF, but i didnt get a chance to finish it off, so ima leave them in oil so my question is should i leave the plates touching or should i put the metal plates in between??? better safe than sorry???

any suggestions?

The metal plates won't absorb the fluid, so you could just soak the friction plates.
