Have 2001, 4.0L and working through a transmission leak. Decided to start easy and replace the dipstick o-ring. However, noticed the dipstick tube is actually two pieces. The upper piece is what one would expect, but this fits into a lower tube (about 6-7 inches long) that leads into the transmission housing just above the pan area. I tried to remove this lower tube, but it seemed firmly fixed in the housing and did not use excessive effort (didn't want to create a new problem). Can anyone tell me how this lower tube is attached (assuming this is a pressure fit and "fixed" to the transmission and not designed to be removed). Has anyone experienced a leak from this lower tube?

Not the lower tube it's where the upper tube meets the lower tube that will leak
I don't think that the lower tube is removable
