- 1996 Explorer 2 door
Hello,
I have a 1996 Explorer 2 door with 260K and a 4.0L. About half of these miles are on a rebuilt transmission. At highway speeds and going up a hill the downshift seems to take a little longer than expected and there is an associated groaning sound. If I go to pass someone I get a good downshift with no problems - it is just when you would think it should be a gentle downshift that I get this groaning - the bottom of the pan is a little damp with fluid but the level on the stick is good with no bad smell or color. The other trans issue I have is sometimes it won't start in park - I have to go to N.
Thanx
