I just changed my transmission fluid and gasket the other day and now i am having a problem between 2-3 gear. There was know visible signs of damage in trans pan but it did have a thin coating of dark gray sludge in the pan. When i pored the new fluid in i accidently spilled fluid down on the trans. When i drove my 1995 explorer every thing was fine and i had no problems with shifting in all gear and the truck had better pick up speed. Later i drove again and i noticed that the o/d on/off light was flashing and the trans would flare or race between 2-3 gear. Despite the problem the truce still has good pick up speed. can anyone help me?

Welcome to this forum! There is a sticky thread about 2-3 flare issues in the transmission section. A flashing overdrive light indicates a code which is stored, and has to be read in order to figure out what the fault is. My wife's family lives in Philadelphia. Are you in the Northeast area?

Yes BrooklyBay i am near the north east area and thanks for responding to my thread. But i think i solved the problem by putting the trans in limp mode. What i mean is i disconnected the negative battery cable for a few minutes and then reconnected it and it solved the problem. I can only hope it,s not temporary, i,ll wait and see.

Disconnecting the battery is only a temporary fix. If the problem isn't fixed it will throw a code again. Have the computer scanned when then the code comes back. Limp mode or otherwise known as FMEM increases the line pressure, and could cause further damage. It's not good to continue driving it that way.

I used a code scanner today and it show a 648 error code. The code book said a 648 is a incorrect gear ratio obtained for fourth gear. I don,t quit know what that mean. Can you help me?
