2004 Explorer XLS 4WD
Hello everyone,
I drive a 2004 Explorer XLS with 4x4 and a 5r55s Transcode "V"
Today I went about changing my transmission fluid and filter and everything went fine until I had to add new fluid. From watching videos I understand that you have to add about 5 quarts of Mercon V with the engine off and then run it till the trans temp is 80-110 F then add until it drips out the check plug.
However, with the engine off I can only add 3 quarts and the rest streams out. The outside temp is 100F and I have a scanner reading the trans fluid temp at 101F.
Do I have to have the engine on and add 2 more quarts or is something else the matter?
Thanks

Figured it out. It appears that when checking the fluid the engine must be running, I turned it on shifted through the gears, and waited 3 seconds on each gear. After that, I pumped in a few more quarts and all is well.
