Transmission Fluid and Filter Change

I was wondering when should I replace the Tranny fluid and filter? I have around 54000 miles and never changed the fluid or filter. Is it necessary to change these things if I have no problems with my tranny? Thanks

There is no time like now to change the ATF. I recommend a full change and replacement with synthetic fluid.

Consider adding an external filter at the same time. See Dead Link Removed for the installation of a filter.
