Ok I might just be paranoid or I screwed something up.

I changed out my valve body today and put in a new filter. I put in 7 qts of ATF and it is still not showing up on the dipstick.

I filled up all 7 bottles with the old fluid out of my drainpan, I spilled a little outside of it but not much

The truck is driving and shifting. Should I try to put in more, or does it sound like I have enough?

Is there anyway I could have messed up where the dipstick is supposed to land in the tranny pan??

Did you check it prior to dropping the pan? Sounds like you still need to add more ATF. I wouldn't run it down personally.

If you dropped the valve body, you are going to need more than 7 qts to refill. Refill for the 5R55E (4x4 version) is 10 qts.

Just add 1/2 quart at a time and shift through all the gears until it reaches the correct level on the dipstick. The engine should be running when you check.

Doesn't dropping the valve body drains just a hair more fluid than dropping the pan? in other words, the valve body doesnt contain much fluid when the engine is off does it? Cauz if dropping the pan removes about 5 or 6 quarts, then to me, 7 quarts sounds reasonable.

I got a lot of fluid out when I dropped the valve body.

The manual says the refill cap is 10 qts - that is about right from what I recall, but it has been about 3 years since I did it. I would add 1/2 pint at a time with the engine running, shift through all gears while idling and continue until the level is correct on the dipstick.

ok cool thats what i needed to hear!
