Anyone know what the physical symptoms would be if the transmission fluid became was low?

One that I have had is a delay when shifting into reverse.
 






Depends on how low it is. Early symptoms would be slow shifts, especially when cold, then as the level got lower you'll see delayed and hard shifts, meaning you'll lose power, then it'll kick hard into gear. None of this is good for the tranny, btw. Its possibly the most complex component on the vehicle, and they are finicky. You'll also be overheating the fluid and the internal components. These will not repair themselves when you add fluid. The damage will be cumulative.

Eventually, though, it'll mitigate itself by simply never engaging.

Just wondering....why would you ask the question?
 






I asked because when I shift mine into reverse it does hesitate and then shifts hard but when I give it gas it just revs up and doesn't hardly move and if I shift it into drive it starts making a real fast clicking noise like it wants to engage but cant.

I wouldn't drive it much longer the way it is. Is the tranny leaking fluid? I would have the tranny pan dropped, change the filter and replace the 7 or so quarts lost during the filter change with new fluid. That "revving up sound" you hear when trying to accelerate is the tranny "slipping" and not shifting into the next gear. Have the tranny serviced at a reputable shop and make sure they re-fill or top off your tranny with fluid the correct way, and that is by topping off the fluid level by having the vehicle level and running at normal operating temperature, and shifting (solenoids opening) the tranny through each gear as they add more tranny fluid to the proper fill level. Just re-filling the tranny pan with new fluid doesn't fully fill the tranny.
 






only problem is its not even drivable as it is. also when its in park I can still push it like it is in neutral and I didn't know if being low on fluid would cause that or not.
