ey guys, I've been using this site for help with my truck for forever but this is my first post. I've got a 97 explorer sport with 4wd, SOHC, 4.10 gears, and I'm 99% sure its got the 5R55E transmission. I got it summer of 07 from my aunt with only 60,000 miles on it and since then I've got it up to 97,000. I'm pretty sure she had the trans flushed at 50k or 55k miles, but I'm not sure and neither is she, but the fluid looks good and it doesn't slip whatsoever, the worst it does is shift a tiny bit rough in from first to second and second to third I think, and only when the RPMs are at like 2000, if I'm accelerating quicker than that, its perfect, in fact, it shift very fast when the RPMs are at 4k and up. So my question is, do any of you guys think it's a bad idea for me to get a full flush and filter change at my current mileage or should it be fine? Fluid looks pretty good to me too so as far as I know it should be okay.

It may not solve your problem, but I would change it regardless. I change my trans fluid about every 30k as regular maintenance. IMO, if you want a trans to last at all, you need to change the fluid regularly.

Right, right, I think I'll just have it done, I would do just the filter and 4 quart fluid change but I really want to replace all the fluid including whats behind the torque converter. While they're in there, I'll have them look for anything that might be wrong with the valve body or anything else because I do have that jolt when the overdrive is off and I let off the gas while cruising at 40.
